The Project in Numbers
Collaboration since
Youth Hostels Connected Digitally
Beds available online
Editors in the TYPO3 system
Shortcuts to the project
With more than 400 youth hostels, approximately 66,000 beds, over 2.3 million members, and around 8.6 million overnight stays annually, the Deutsche Jugendherbergen (German Youth Hostels), short DJH, are among the largest nonprofit organizations in Germany. Given its complex organizational structure—comprising a national association, 14 state associations, and individual youth hostels—the digitization of the central website presented unique challenges. The goal was to create a high-performance TYPO3 platform that appeals to a wide variety of target groups, enables online bookings, and can be maintained decentrally by numerous editors. Today, we have been supporting the DJH for over 11 years as a long-term digitalization partner in the continuous development of the platform.
How We Created a Future-Proof Enterprise Platform
Together with the DJH, we developed a modern TYPO3 platform that brings together content, booking processes, and technical systems on a single central website.
In addition to the technical implementation, we supported the project with SEO and analytics consulting, as well as workshops on digital development. Special attention was paid to integrating the various systems of the regional associations and developing a scalable architecture.
Over the course of our collaboration, we continuously expanded and modernized the platform
Key enhancements include:
- Relaunch of the website based on TYPO3
- Expansion of the online booking platform
- Optimization of booking flows and user experience
- Further development of the property and experience pages
- Development of the DJH app
- Mobile optimizations and responsive design
- Redesign of the website
- Further development of the platform with regard to digital accessibility
- Establishment of a modern Kubernetes architecture as the foundation for future developments
Thanks to continuous development, the platform remains technologically up-to-date and can be flexibly adapted to new requirements.
